ART GARAGE & INSTRUMENTHEAD

Art Garage Weintrob show New Orleans

The Art Garage on St. Claude: How great Michael Weintrob’s Instrumenthead photos looked in this cavernously compelling industrial space place. Live music and wildness (and dancing later I am sure). I haven’t yet figured out the “art” of being out alone and letting myself go wild, which is what the Instrumenthead exhibition/installation required. And so I went early on opening night; the nighttime New Orleans world wasn’t totally awake, but still amazing. I could walk from my airbnb with the 14-year-old deaf chihuahua who hadn’t yet bitten my toe.

Instrumenthead is a compelling coffee-table book with photos Michael took of musicians with their instruments concealing their heads/faces. It’s stunning and fun and, if you allow it, insists you travel somewhere you haven’t known existed. A couple nearby were itching to dance and did, just a little. Her body was on fire. I could have just started dancing and I know they would have too, and so not be the older woman alone on the dance floor. I will never hindsight again.
