I’ve never had so many readings lined up at once, a surfeit of words and possibilities. And now, too, I’m in the midst of doors opening and able to look at people sitting right in front of me.

If I were a musician, it would be like a Lincoln Center or Jazz Standard (now permanently closed but always worthy) performance—the intimacy of words flowing out of my mouth and floating through the air into your ears. Well, that comparison might be a stretch but it feels that way.

Last Thursday I read virtually through the Farnsworth Art Museum—Crescent Moon Rising! Poems of Crisis & Renewal. I find it so interesting where I go, sometimes a balancing act of time and language, when working toward a particular theme. I’m usually resistant to structure, showing up for wherever the vision leads me. I read three new poems with a handful of other writers.

The virtual reads are winding down, and so I believe this next Wednesday may be my last. 8/24 @ 5:30 p.m.

I’ll be on the coast at the Northeast Harbor Library reading with Roxana Robinson and Kimberly Ridley—in conjunction with Breaking Bread. Roxana has written 10 books and is a Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts fellow. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and elsewhere. Kim is a science writer, a contributing editor to Down East Magazine, and the author of nonfiction nature books. And then there’s me. So happy to be reading with these fine writers. Lynn Boulger, executive director of the Authors Guild Foundation, will moderate. Yay, we get to talk with each other and you, too!

So if you want to drive to the library, I’ll see you there.

But if you want to log in virtually, you can do that too! And I’ll still see you there.

Either way, you need to register. One for the link and the other to make sure there’s a chair for your butt.
